SPRINGBARREL SONGWRITER SERVICES

“Representing Hitmakers"

OUR MISSION

Springbarrel Songwriter Services is a group of dedicated professionals based in Nashville's music community. Our focus is assisting Songwriters by presenting their original compositions to Major Recording Companies, Major Independent Recording Companies, Record Producers, Recording Artist Managers and the Recording Artists themselves.

CLIENTS

We currently represent songwriters whose successes include “You Know Me Better Than That”, “Pickup Man” - “Prop Me Up Beside The Jukebox” - “Tuffy” - “Just A Regular Joe” - "You Have The Right To Remain Silent" - “Something Like This” - “It Must Be Love" - “Do Ya Think I'm Sexy” - ”The Rock” - “In My Own Back Yard” - "Thinking Outside The Box"- "New Beginnings"-"This Ain't My Day To Save The World"-"Now I Know You Did"- "Maybe"- “From Here On Out” - “So Help Me Girl” - “It Must've Been Something I Said” - “Basic Love” - “I Keep It Under My Hat” - ”The Thrill Is Back” - “I Wouldn’t Mind The Shackles”- "That's A Life"- "What A Day To Shake A Heartache"- "I Could Get Used To This"- "Where Jesus Is,"and others on record labels including Sony/Epic, Music City Records, Curb Records, Dreamworks Nashville, MCA, Arista, etc..

Springbarrel Songwriter Services is known throughout the music community as a comfortable place frequented by professional songwriters, musicians, engineers, producers and a host of other music business folk. Take a load off, bend an ear, share project info, and most importantly, find a hit song, all in a pleasant atmosphere. But, our doors are also open to new and upcoming musical talents. Nothing pleases us more than to find the next hitmaker (or industry professional of any stripe, for that matter) among those with whom we come in contact. Unknown writers have told us they (quote), “love the open, friendly, yet competitive atmosphere that’s loaded with creativity and chances to hone the craft among like-minded people.” And, the feedback from industry decision-makers has proven to be invaluable with regards to their songs pitched through our services. Songwriters who have been successful, many having already rung the #1 bell, seem to appreciate that here at Springbarrel there is no such thing as the “flavor of the week.” In other words, when a great song isn’t cut after a few pitches that doesn’t mean it will be abandoned. (Apparently, this can be somewhat of a problem at some publishing companies.) Springbarrel will continue to pitch a great song for as long as it takes for it to find the right artist and project. Giving up on greatness just doesn’t makes sense to us. Springbarrel is fortunate to have an extremely dedicated and talented staff. And, we are also surrounded by the masters of Bayou Recording, recently rated by Music Row Magazine as one of Nashville’s top 5 studios. Finally, we hope to continue to grow - in wisdom, in talent, in prosperity, and last, but not least, in our fundemental love of music while we give the glory to the Creator of it all.

We pitch our Client's material to these labels on a regular basis.

SONG PUBLISHING?

Springbarrel Songwriter Services is not the song publishing arm of our company. Again, our focus is finding great songs and presenting them to the Country Music Industry on behalf of the Songwriter/Publisher. We represent only Songwriters/Publishers whose compositions are already protected by International Copyright.

WE KEEP IT SIMPLE

Our plan is simple and forthright. We accept cd compilations of copyrighted original songs for review by the Springbarrel staff. (Note: cd's are not returned unless adequate postage and packing are provided.) Based on our experience we then identify songs we believe will meet current demands of the Country Music Industry. Subsequently, we offer the Songwriter/Publisher our Service Agreement along with a “Schedule A” list of those songs to be covered under the Agreement. The Agreement is then either accepted or declined by the Songwriter/Publisher. Simple and forthright.

THE ONLY THING CERTAIN IS CHANGE

Things change. Nashville is the Country Music Capital, but “Country Music” has become varied in its definition. In an effort to take full advantage of the opportunities before us, we seek clients whose backgrounds enable our Company to reflect diversity in every sense of the word. We believe there are great untapped sources of quality original compositions; new, different, and varied in lyrical content and melodic style and deserving of proper local Nashville representation. This necessary exposure is what we offer.

THE INEVITABLE COST OF DOING BUSINESS

Indeed our service is not free, nor can it be. Office space, personel, duplicating equipment, blank media, etc., are not free. However, by utlizing our service Springbarrel Clients keep their cost of doing business to a minimum. All of the above and more is included in a retainer that is small compared to the cost of going it alone. But there are more important reasons our service is an exellent value. For example, we are positioned to take advantage of time-sensitive situations regarding the recording schedules of the Artists--a vitally important point. Not so long ago we pitched a song that was recorded by a major Artist the very next day. Conversely, we pitched yet another song that was kept "on hold" by that same Artist for eight (8) months before it was recorded. Both songs went on to become #1 Songs on Billboard Magazine’s Country Singles Chart.

In addition to a small monthly retainer paid by the Client, our Agreement provides for “back end” bonuses to be paid to Springbarrel Songwriter Services in amounts that reflect chart position and record sales. These “back end” bonuses are paid only when the song is generating revenue. “Back end” bonus status is the goal for which we strive. At that time, everyone is realizing appreciable profits.

THE ONLY SURE WAY TO FAIL IS TO STOP TRYING

While many years of Music Industry experience is invaluable, there is hardly a prescribed method for achieving success in songwriting other than hard work and persistence on the part of all involved. Receiving awards from the Nashville Songwriter’s Associtation International, BMI, and the CMA are truly wonderful experiences. We’ve been there; 'black-tie-sit-down-five-course-meal' events. It’s a great honor to be recogonized by your peers. But, as the next Monday morning dawns, you realize the race is on again and it’s back to work for everyone. For the Springbarrel Staff that work includes (among other things) the following:

All prospective clients and their material are evaluated by the entire Springbarrel staff during company meetings held on the first workday of each month. (This accounts for the slight delay experienced by some of our clients at the outset of their relationship with our company.)
All Springbarrel clients receive Activity Reports detailing as much information as reasonably possible, keeping them up to date on points such as Artists the material is being pitched to, initial reactions to the songs by A&R representatives, “hold” status, and types of songs needed for upcoming projects, etc..
The song catalogs of all Springbarrel clients are given fair and equitable attention as we dutifully consider all material in at least two song casting sessions each week. It only makes good business sense to offer great songs for a recording session. No one gets lost in the shuffle. It is in our best interest, as well as that of the Songwriter/Publisher, to get songs recorded. This is, after all, the goal of Springbarrel Songwriter Services.
