Billboard Bits: Diffie, 112, 'Sisters In The Spirit'
Joe Diffie's 1994 hit "Pickup Man" gets new life in commercials for Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. A rewritten, re-recorded version of the song is being used to advertise the Overland Park, Kan.-based restaurant chain's Carside-To-Go curbside food pickup service.
Released during Diffie's 10-year tenure on Epic Nashville, the original Howard Perdew/Kerry Kurt Phillips-written version of "Pickup Man" appeared on the album "Third Rock From the Sun" and spent four weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. The artist currently records for Broken Bow Records, which released his latest set, "Tougher Than Nails," in June.
Diffie says its been fun to hear his song being used in the TV spots, developed by ad agency Foote Cone & Belding's Chicago office. "Pickup Man" will be heard in national television and radio spots throughout 2005.

Biography
'''Gary Barlow''' (born January 20, 1971 in Frodsham, Cheshire) is a British singer and songwriter, best known as the ex-leader of the successful boy band, Take That.
Barlow was generally recognised as the musical talent behind Take That, although, he became insecure when other band members were given a "turn" at the lead vocals on successive hits. However, he remained the songwriter, and hit songs produced by him included "Back for Good", "Pray", and "Sure".
In 1996, after Take That split up, Barlow went solo, and his first release, "Forever Love", was an immediate number one hit in the UK. His next album, ''Open Road'', went to the top of the chart thanks to the 1997 number one UK single "Love Won't Wait" written by Madonna and Shep Pettibone. The remix was produced by Junior Vasquez. The original demo remains one of many unreleased Madonna songs.
When the singing career of his former band colleague and old rival, Robbie Williams, began to eclipse his own, Barlow returned to songwriting and producing. Robbie Williams made fun of the missing success of the allegedly more talented Barlow in a hidden track at the end of his record ''Escapology'', singing "Where has Gary Barlow gone?".
His most notable success as a songwither to date was Will Young's number one hit, "Leave Right Now", and he also wrote "Lost Without You" by Delta Goodrem.
